In 1985 the parents of Metro’s President Steven J. McCaffrey sustained water damage to their residence. They were told that they were not covered by their insurance policy and that their claim was denied. Steven, in researching whether or not the insurance company was correct, was referred to a public insurance adjuster.
The public adjuster came out to inspect the claim. They reviewed the policy and the public adjuster provided insight about the different insurance policies available.
When they asked the public adjuster how much they owed him, they said that there was no fee for the education and that as a public adjuster, they would only charge a percentage of the claim settlement, had the claim been covered. Realizing that a public adjuster offered such a valuable service to property owners, Steve wondered why more people weren’t familiar with what public adjusters do. Steve decided to make it his mission to educate property owners about their rights under their insurance policy.
